The built of the new Mark II does seem to have any primary flaw.. Even more so if, as in this case, one has the possibility to see the magnesium alloy chassis that has helped to conceive this body.

In fact, official data claims that the stamping and sealing of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II has been improved to make it more resistant to inclement weather conditions, to dust and water than its predecessor. Obviously, only time can corroborate this promise.

Apart from the very few external differences in comparison to the previous model, it also draws attention to the apparent similarity between the EOS 50D Mark II and the Canon EOS 5D, even more so if you are armed to the additional hilt.

98% vision

It wouldn’t be fair if we said that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II brings few improvements to the previous model, taking into account what the EOS 5D Mark II houses inside it. Still, there are some points where three years of evolution have not really meant a significant change.

One of the clearest is, for example, the viewer. Excellent in coverage and bright, her leap of 96% to 98% may seem a small step especially comparing it with similar models of other brands as both the Nikon D3 and the Sony A900 boast a 100% vision.

Fair or not the Canon EOS 50D Mark II is a step behind in this sense.

Something similar happens with the shooting speed of 3.9 frames per second. The sound of the blast is impeccable and his timing-is-probably more than enough for most users there are done with this model.

It is true that the EOS 5D already shooted 3 frames per second, but the fact remains that the resolution has now risen from 13 to 21 million pixels. However, the problem comes from the always uncomfortable comparisons, and that is that the young A900 is capable of moving its 24-megapixel to 5 frames per second.

Canon EOS 5D Markl II Video

Comparisons aside, there are three pillars of the EOS 5D Mark II: its high resolution of 21 million pixels, the new processor DIGIC IV, who dares with a maximum sensitivity of ISO 6400 and forced values of up to ISO 25,600, and more of them all: the ability to record movies.

The first two, we fear that much is still difficult to speak, as the model tested is not final and photographs obtained can neither run nor taken as a reference for the performance of the camera.

Yes we can, instead, discover how the video recording on the Mark II’s system is almost identical to that proposed by the Nikon D90 ( comaprison ) and very simple in its operation.

Just turn on Live View- just like in the EOS 50D- and click the Set button in the center of the rear wheel. A red signal on the screen then tells us the start of the recording.

Two aspects set it apart comparing it with the Nikon D90: the resolution of the video (of 1920 x 1080 points, ie Full HD) and the operation of the automatic focus by contrast during the recording of the sequences.

Be careful!! because the final size of the file can give you a scare. A 4-GB card, for example, will serve for about 12 minutes of video quality and maximum resolution.

Canon EOS 5d Mark II New Landscape

It clearly fulfills what it most promises and all in itself is a very solid camera, with a myriad options. But long waiting times to produce expectations that are not always fulfilled.

Recent changes in the market, the emergence of new competitors, with the resurgence of Nikon and Sony’s claims, and the resolute commitment of Canon by combining sensitivity and resolution drawn a picture really interesting and a new challenge for this reflex.

Any improvements in the canon EOS 50D firmware will be linked from here

Software for the Canon EOS 50D

Digital Photo Professional Software for Canon EOS 50D

A quick and professional RAW images processor it allows inmediate adjustments to the image without any information los which means that photos taken with the Canon EOS 50d will look just as sharp. It gives control over such image variables such as white balance, exposure compensation, dynamic range, noise reduction and colour tone – also the ability to view Auto Focus points on an image. The Lens Aberration correction tool will do a precise correction of different types of distortion caused by certain lenses on the Canon EOS 50D.

Digital Photo Professional supports standard profiles such as sRGB, Adobe RGB, ColorMatch RGB, Apple RGB and Wide Gamut RGB colour spaces. ICC (International Colour Consortium) profiles can be attached to TIFF or JPEG images when converted from RAW. This allows a true reproduction of colours in software applications that support ICC profiles, such as Photoshop.

EOS Utility for Canon EOS 50D

This version of EOS (for the 50D) Utility comes with essential support for Live View remote shooting, camera configuration and image transfers. Well integrated with the later Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility could be configured to monitor ‘hot’ folders, automatically renaming and managing incoming images to a structured file system. Users can also tag their images with EXIF data, that includes copyright information.

Picture Style Editor for Canon EOS 50D

This software allows users to create individual Picture Styles that fit with their personal standards. Once new Picture Styles have been defined they can be uploaded directly into the camera and applied to JPEG or RAW images. Both personal Picture Styles and the 6 predetermined Picture Styles can all be adjusted when working with RAW images in DPP.

Canon EOS 50d and Nikon D90 Launch

If earlier this year, the two main manufacturers of digital cameras, Canon and Nikon, has attracted almost a reflex by two for large users (the 450d and D60), is now repeating history. In the absence of a few weeks to begin the fair Photokina 2008, the two Japanese brands have almost overlap the launch of two new SLR for advanced users.

Of course, there are two cameras that incorporate the latest technology and with very high benefits without becoming professional machines, but capable of satisfying the most demanding. Echando a look at technical specifications announced by Canon and Nikon, I wanted to cope, to establish a first comparison and draw some conclusions. It goes without saying that only with the announced, another issue would be tested, where insurance will supplement this initial analysis.

At first glance, the two chambers of Canon EOS 50D and the Nikon D90, the machines are really attractive for any fan and it seems they wanted to surprise, including details and features the latest generation. Without doubt, represent an incentive for those who seek the ultimate (though many are happy to see that previous models lowered their prices; speaks Canon 40D and the Nikon D80).

Let us see the advantages of both machines:

* Sensors. There is no doubt the two Japanese manufacturers have sought to integrate the latest generation sensors. In the case of Canon, it is a 15.1-megapixel CMOS and 12.3 megapixel Nikon, both are APS-C. Few difference, Canon offers the highest resolution, but these dimensions is not a figure of the definition of better quality.

* However, greater importance was the type of processor. The recent IV DIGIC Canon and Nikon as usual EXPE. It seems that Canon has sought to give an additional quality to this process very large number of pixels, with the last generation able to greatly reduce noise at high ISO values. On a comprehensive test is where you notice the difference, because the Nikon is the same model that incorporates higher (D300 and D3).

* Both devices have auto cleaning sensor forced something today, HDMI (something that starts to spread), in addition to incorporating a 3-inch LCD screen with the same resolution (920,000 pixels). Both screens also show the display system in real time by cons. These are the parameters that make them similar to the maximum.

* Speed shooting. Here are the Canon 50D takes advantage. It can reach up to 6.3 fps and the Nikon D90 reached 4.5 fps. It is clear that Canon is faster, so it is more appropriate for sports or wildlife photography, for example. And with these values is placed on his rival.

* Focus. The Nikon includes 11 points or areas for priority action in relation to 9 on a cross from Canon. We would certainly try to detail, whether to have somewhere addition, improving the approach or what is faster.

* Regarding the size and weight of the body is also similar. The Canon has a slightly higher dimensions and weight (without the battery or card) of 730 grams compared to 620 grams of Nikon. For what is a little light (no goals).

* Regarding the battery, according to initial indications, it seems that Nikon took the palm, with a maximum capacity of 850 shots, compared to 640 of its competitor. These characteristics are very subjective, but a priori Nikon batteries have greater capacity.

* ISO. Nor are a significant number because it depends on the quality of the image, but the Canon is able to help us achieve the 3,200 and 12,800 forced mode. For its part, Nikon arrives from 200 to 3200 (and forced 6,400). In any event, it seems that the sensor and Canon’s latest processor achieves low noise levels at high sensitivity in a very satisfactory. Again a comparison test to help us choose in this aspect, but Canon seems to be more at risk (is it because they know that their quality in this area?).

* Memory Cards. Here differ both manufacturers. Canon continues with the usual Compact Flash cards and the possibility for the version with UDMA fast. For its part, Nikon, as it did in the D60, uses SD cards and SDHC (also in charge of the Eye-Fi), a wager on this model supports more widespread (which are used almost all compact) and whose prices are slightly lower (with little difference with CF in some models).

* Video recording. This is undoubtedly the great advantage of Nikon. The D90 is the first of its range to include the possibility of video recording, a defendant so far little use for users of reflex, but could be extended in a short period of time, if it manages to succeed . It is capable of capturing moving images on HD until 1.280×720 pixels at 24 frames per second. A novelty to be taken into account and which opens up new opportunities that will attract many fans to digital imaging.

So do we choose Canon EOS 50d or Nikon D90?

As can be seen, it becomes a very difficult choice based on their technical specifications, because these are two models with advanced functions and very similar. The main advantages of the Canon 50D would be speed, which includes the possibility of shooting in RAW (sRAW-1 and sRAW-2), but with less resolution, so that generated files take up less space . In addition to having the highest ISO sensitivity, and his body magnesium alloy resistant and protects against atmospheric agents (small splashes and dust) for its seal on the battery cover and map.

Regarding the Nikon, it could highlight its battery lasting a little light for an advanced model, the ability to record video and incorporates a GPS system which is offered as an option.

Two reflex complete for those who require the most, with the latest technology, will ensure that those who are reluctant to ask for a device of this range. While it is undeniable that Nikon was more risky to include video recording, perhaps looking for new users to whom they can be useful for this possibility. Although the model it replaces, the D80 took some time on the market, with the Canon 40D, with barely a year and remains an attractive option.

Is it worth renewing the Canon EOS 40D for a EOS 50d?

The camera DSLR Canon 50D, which is to replace the Canon 40D, rises to its specifications positioned as a more than acceptable camera or digital SLR starter for photographers who want a bit more about her camera.

EOS 50D high definition sensor

The Canon 50D carries a CMOS sensor APS-C of 15 megapixels, very high megapixel either sheltered in a body more resistant and fully sealed against dirt and dust. In the event that any weed dust remaining in the sensor (which can happen especially when we change of target), this camera comes equipped with an automatic cleaning system.

To move all the information that works with this camera requires a good processor. The Canon EOS 50D incorporates powerful DIGIC fourth generation, which among other things, makes us choose to take a picture of sensitivities between 100 and ISO 12,800. The real sensitivity range is 100 to 3200, but we can choose two ways forced 6400 and ISO 12800. These high sensitivities in combination with many megapixel sensor reduces the noise introduced into the photos when using high values of sensitivity, basic to play with other parameters of the camera.

For those who like to make long bursts of photos, important picture of nature and sports, this camera can take up to 6.3 images per second, with a maximum of 16 pictures in RAW format and more, up to 60, if only because we chose take snapshots in JPEG.

EOS 50D 3″ screen

The screen is 3 inches, with resolution of 920,000 pixels, which gives you an impressive quality, about four times more than the model it replaces. It incorporates the other camera technology with Live View system approach contrast and facial detection system, in order to compose and focus directly from the screen, something that consumers appreciate that the world is compact and when we take photos in complex situations or in that the camera can not be in front of the eye.

EOS 50D high definition output

To view the photos directly on a television in the highest quality incorporates a HDMI output.

EOS 50D RAW format

Finally, tapping in RAW format, one of the advantages of this type of camera is complemented by low sRAW1 and sRAW2, storing the pure image with the same editing options later that the full RAW, but with half space as the original card.

EOS 50D price

The price of the body of the Canon 50D is approximately EUR 900-1.000 to change, a temptation for those who want to make the jump to this kind of digital SLR.

Canon has introduced a much anticipated eos 50d (50 D), an updated version of the Canon EOS 40 D. It looks almost like its predecessor though, there are many significant improvements: the 150,000-pixel CMOS image sensor, a faster digic 4 processor, 3.0 VGA LCD monitors with live view mode, to provide three modes of AF, which can be expanded To ISO 12800 and HDMI interface connector, for high-quality viewing images. Also include a new control on the screen shows the rapid most commonly used, and how creative the AF and automatic exposure.
